The professional association of German geoscientists e. V. (BDG) is a professional representation of German geologists , geophysicists , mineralogists and other geoscientists founded in 1984 .

The main tasks of the association are to secure and expand professional activity and to improve the professional situation of geoscientists. This includes, for example, informing the public about the value and importance of geoscientific practice, adapting university training to professional requirements, and informing and networking members. The BDG publishes the association organs "BDG-Mitteilungen" and "Geoscientific Mitteilungen GMit". The professional association of German geoscientists, organized as a registered association , has its seat in Bonn . Chairman since October 2015 is Andreas Hagedorn, full-time managing director Dr. Peter Müller. In addition, the BDG organizes the German Geological Days.

Award Stein im Brett

The BDG awards the Stein im Brett prize to public figures who have made public perception and acceptance of the geosciences.
