Erika Pohl-Ströher (born January 18, 1919 in Wurzen ; † December 18, 2016 in Ferpicloz ) was a German - Swiss chemist , biologist and entrepreneur ( Wella ). As terra mineralia and Manufactory of Dreams , it presented parts of its extensive collections to the public.

Life

Pohl-Ströher, born in Wurzen, grew up in Rothenkirchen in the Vogtland , where her grandparents Franz and Marie Ströher founded the cosmetics company Wella in 1880 . Her father was Karl Ströher . The Ströher family left their homeland after the Second World War and settled in Hünfeld in East Hesse , where they also relocated the Wellawerk.

Pohl Ströher studied at the University of Jena , the subjects Biology and Chemistry and received his doctorate in 1944 at Gerhard Heberer the subject of " contributions to Zytodynamik of growth: Quantitative-statistical studies on the larvae of Drosophila melanogaster Meigen ". Until the sale of Wella AG to Procter & Gamble in 2003 , she held 23% of the shares in the family company. Their share in the sales price was around 818 million euros. Erika Pohl-Ströher lived in Ferpicloz in the canton of Friborg , where she died on December 18, 2016.

Collector and patron

Pohl-Ströher was one of the most important patrons in Germany today. In 2004 she brought her valuable mineral collection, made up of around 80,000 specimens, to the Pohl-Ströher Mineraliftung in 2004 in order to guarantee its holdings, scientific supervision and public access over the long term. It was made available on permanent loan from the TU Bergakademie Freiberg . After the necessary renovation of Freudenstein Castle , around 3500 exhibits have been presented in the Terra mineralia exhibition since October 20, 2008 . Another collection, which includes around 1500 exhibits, mainly of folk art and handicrafts from the Ore Mountains , was presented to the public on October 29, 2010 in Annaberg-Buchholz in the Manufactory of Dreams . The collection spans from the 17th century to the present day. In Gelenau , the Pohl-Ströher depot shows handicraft collection objects and thematic special exhibitions. The local history exhibition in Rothenkirchen, which opened in November 2016 and which focuses on the history of the Wella company, owes its existence to financial support from Pohl-Ströher.

Honors

For “the intended public presentation of her mineral collection”, she received the “Stein im Brett” award in 2004 from the Association of German Geoscientists . On November 17, 2005 she was awarded the Saxon Order of Merit by Prime Minister Georg Milbradt . The following day she was appointed an honorary senator by the TU Bergakademie Freiberg . The Mayor of Freiberg, Bernd-Erwin Schramm, and the Vice-Rector for Education at the TU Bergakademie Freiberg, Dirk Meyer, presented her with the Freiberg Medal of Honor in recognition of their commitment to the city of Freiberg and the Bergakademie there in October 2012.

The mineral Erikapohlit is named after her.
