God TV (originally known as Christian Channel Europe ) is an international Christian television station that broadcasts six regional programs worldwide, mainly via satellite . In some countries, the program can also be received in local cable networks or via an antenna. The European program is available as a live stream on the Internet. In Germany, the station is gaining popularity among Christians because it has also been broadcast via the Astra 1h satellite (12.1485 GHz, transponder 87, vertical) since 2006 . A German representative is located in Hamburg . The program can also be received online via Zattoo .

Program and charitable commitment

The programs are characterized by a charismatic style of worship, often in the form of recordings of free church services, conferences or concerts. Among them are organizers such as “The Prayer Room from the International House of Prayer” with Mike Bickle (American Evangelist) or the Hillsong Church (Australia). Other preachers in the program include TD Jakes and John Hagee, and Kim Clement and others. Other programs include "The Rory & Wendy Show" (commentary on social issues and events) and reports on the charity projects supported by God TV in "Behind the Screens".

Some of the regular donations go directly to the aid projects supported by the broadcaster. Including child aid in South Africa , school meals in the Kondanani Children's Village in Malawi , etc. In recent years, partnerships with other organizations have emerged, including well projects in Tanzania and Kenya .

financing

God TV is funded by donations from its worldwide viewers. On the website, the station advertises with the words “Together we can win a billion souls through the use of the media.” There are also program supporters (sponsors) and, to a lesser extent, advertising income. In the Daily Telegraph , journalist James Hall writes: “God TV's strong growth is having a huge impact on Christian retail. The range includes the books advertised on television, including those by co-founder Wendy Alec. God TV's online shop, Godshop, sells thousands of books and records. ”The station organizes two Mission Weeks a year , which focus on increasing fundraising for the station's work, its aid projects and its further expansion.

criticism

Church and neutral observers speak of fundamentalism or, in some cases, of aggressive fundraising. During the five to ten day mission weeks, live broadcasts of the aid projects are broadcast, constantly interrupted by appeals to support the Bible teachers working there.

God TV is accused of promoting prosperity gospel . The South African newspaper Mail & Guardian states that "in both God TV and other religious channels, it is hard to see anyone realizing the path of righteousness through them because their core audience is already converted."
