Gabriel Álvez , full name Jorge Gabriel Álvez Fernández , (born December 26, 1974 in Montevideo ) is a former Uruguayan football player .
Career
societies
The 1.84 meter tall offensive player Álvez was at the beginning of his career from 1993 to 1995 in the ranks of Defensor Sporting . From 1995 to mid-1998 he played for the Argentinian club CA Independiente . He then worked for Nacional Montevideo until mid-2000 . In 1999 he was the top scorer in the Primera División with 24 goals . In 1998 and 2000 the club won the Uruguayan championship. He spent the next two and a half years playing for Olympiacos in Greece. In the 2001/02 season there are twelve league appearances and two goals for him to book. In 2003 he was again a member of the Nacional Montevideos squad. In the same year he moved to CF Pachuca in Mexico , where he stayed until mid-2004. National team
Álvez was part of the Uruguayan U-20 selection at the U-20 South American Championships in Colombia in 1992 . Uruguay finished the tournament as vice South American champion. During the tournament he was used by coach Ángel Castelnoble twice (no goal). With the junior selection , he played the Junior World Cup in 1993 .
He made his debut on June 17, 1999 in the 3-2 away win in the friendly against Paraguay under coach Víctor Púa with a starting eleven in the Uruguayan senior team . Overall, including his last appearance on April 26, 2000 in the World Cup qualifier against Paraguay, he played eight international matches and scored one goal. He took part with the "Celeste" at the Copa America 1999 , in which he reached the final with the team and was vice-South American champion after losing to Brazil.
