Gabriel concert
Johann Gabriel Konertz (born August 26, 1954 in Bonn ; † February 28, 2017 in Cologne ) was a German rower who competed for the Federal Republic of Germany . In 1977 and 1978 he won the silver medal in the four with helmsman at the World Rowing Championships.
The 1.92 m tall rower from the Bonner Ruder-Gesellschaft took sixth place at the 1975 World Championships together with Klaus Meyer , Bernhard Foelkel and Wolfgang Horak in a four-man without a helmsman . In the following year he won his first German championship title together with Klaus Meyer and Knut Raddatz in two with helmsman . At the 1976 Olympic Games , Foelkel, Meyer, Horak and Konertz competed in a foursome without a helmsman like in 1975, and from the semifinals Klaus Roloff rowed for Meyer. Despite the change, the crew reached the final and finished sixth as at the World Championships the year before.
In 1977 Konertz won three German championship titles. In the eighth, in two with helmsman together with Klaus Meyer and Helmut Sassenbach and in four with helmsman with Wolfram Thiem , Frank Schütze as well as Meyer and Sassenbach. The foursome took second place behind the boat from the GDR at the 1977 World Championships . In 1978 Konertz again won three championship titles: in two with Wolf-Dietrich Oschlies and Helmut Sassenbach, in four with Oschlies, Schütze, Thiem and helmsman Dirk Große-Loheide and in eight. At the 1978 World Championships , Konertz, Schütze, Thiem, Oschlies and Sassenbach rowed to the silver medal behind the boat from the GDR as in the previous year. In 1979 Konertz won the championship title in two with Meyer and Sassenbach and in eight. The two also started at the World Championships , missed the A-final there and did not make it to the B-final. In 1980 Konertz won his last championship title with eighth. In 1981, together with Wolfram Thiem and helmsman Manfred Klein , he again finished seventh at the world championships .
