Gabriel Spilar (until 2009 Gabriel Špilár ; born December 15, 1980 in Košice ) is a Slovak ice hockey player who has been under contract with HC Košice in the Slovakian extra league since November 2011 .
Career
Gabriel Spilar began his career as a hockey player in the youth of HC Košice , where he was active until 1998. He then played in the 1998/99 season for the North Bay Centennials in Canada's top junior division, the Ontario Hockey League . However, he returned after only one year to HC Košice, for which he made his debut in the Slovak Extra League in the 1999/00 season . The attacker scored a total of 17 points scorer in 44 games, including ten goals. After three seasons in the professional team of HC Košice, the right-shooter moved to HC Sparta Prague for the 2003/04 season , with whom he finished third in the Czech extra league this season .
The 2004/05 season began Spilar at HC Slovan Bratislava , who was Slovak champion at the end of the season . During the season, however, the former OHL player signed with his ex-club from Košice. In the following year, the winger managed to defend the championship title. This time he started the season with HC Zlín in the Czech Republic and finished it with MsHK Žilina in Slovakia. With 13 points scorer, including five goals, in 17 playoff games, he played a crucial role in winning the championship. Despite the success he left Žilina again and played the following two years for their league rivals Košice. In the summer of 2008, Špilár was obliged by Barys Astana from the newly founded Continental Hockey League , for which he completed a season in the KHL. He then returned to Slovakia and joined the MsHK Žilina.
In January 2010 he left the MsHK Žilina and was signed by Espoo Blues from the SM-liiga . In the summer of 2010 he returned to his homeland and was signed by HK Nitra . For the 2011/12 season, the Slovak moved to Kaszink-Torpedo Ust-Kamenogorsk from the Wysschaja Hockey League , the second Russian division, but returned to Slovakia in November 2012 and was signed by his home club.
