Kupferberg ( Polish: Miedziana ) is a village in Upper Silesia in the municipality of Tarnau in the Powiat Opolski (Opole district) in the Opole Voivodeship .

Geographical location
Kupferberg is four kilometers southwest of the Tarnau municipality and 17 kilometers southeast of the district town and voivodeship capital Opole ( Opole ). The village is completely surrounded by forest, with the exception of the north.

history
The place was founded as a colony in 1773. Forester Burich determined the building site. Almost all of the settlers came from Austrian Silesia and Moravia . Originally the place was called Kolonie in the Kossorowitzer Heide , in 1775 it was named Kupferberg . Of the 20 owners of the colony sites in 1775, one was Protestant and the other 19 Catholic. Of these, six came from the surrounding area or from Silesia (one from Grudschütz, one from the Proskau area, two from Katscher, one from Schurgast and one from the Strehlen area), three from the Troppauer area, three from Zuckmantel, one from Hunters village, five from Moravia, one from Bohemia and one from Hungary. By profession they were rangers, weavers, bookbinders, tillers, shoemakers, soldiers and butters. A total of 84 people and 19 families lived in the place. In 1783 a chapel was built in Kupferberg. In that year the place had 90 inhabitants, in 1855 there were 187, in 1900 323 and 1939 finally 486 inhabitants.
In the referendum in Upper Silesia on March 20, 1921, 61 people eligible to vote voted for Upper Silesia to remain with Germany and 139 for membership in Poland. The majority of the entire constituency of Opole voted for Germany. After the division of Upper Silesia, Kupferberg remained with the German Empire .
In 1945 Kupferberg, which had previously belonged to the Opole district , came under Polish administration and was renamed Miedziana . In 1950 the place became part of the Opole Voivodeship and in 1999 the Powiat Opolski .
On February 15, 2007, German was introduced as the second official language in the municipality. On April 14, 2008, the place received the additional official German place name Kupferberg .
