Gabriele Kotsis

Gabriele Kotsis (born October 29, 1967 in Vienna , now Gabriele Anderst-Kotsis) is a professor of computer science at the Johannes Kepler University (JKU) Linz . She heads the Institute for Tele-Cooperation and the Department for Cooperative Information Systems. From 2007 to 2015 she was also Vice-Rector for Research and the Advancement of Women and temporarily chairwoman of the Research Forum of the Austrian University Conference . Since July 1, 2020 she has been president of the international Association for Computing Machinery (ACM).

biography

Kotsis studied from 1986 to 1991 business computer science and 1992-1995 Social and Economic Sciences at the University of Vienna and received his doctorate there. From 1991 to 2001 she was employed as a university assistant at the Institute for Applied Computer Science and Information Systems . In 2000 she completed her habilitation in computer science at the University of Vienna. In 2001 she then took up a one-year visiting professorship at the Institute for Information Processing and Information Management at the Vienna University of Economics and Business . In 2002 she was visiting professor at the Institute for Computer Science at Copenhagen Business School in Denmark and at the Institute for Tele-Cooperation at JKU, before she was appointed Professor for Computer Science in December 2002. She is a member of the Austrian Center for Parallel Computation (ACPC), the Austrian Computer Society (OCG) , of which she was President from 2003 to 2007, and a Distinguished Scientist of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), of which she has been President since July 2020. She has been a member since 2016, and since 2018 also deputy chairwoman of the University Council of the University of Klagenfurt .
