Gabriele Kuhnke

Gabriele Cecilia Kuhnke (née Ammermann ; born June 19, 1946 in Olsberg ) is a German writer who is best known for her books for children and young people.

Life

She spent her childhood in Nuttlar in the Sauerland and attended the girls' high school in Arnsberg . Kuhnke, who felt drawn to water and ships from childhood, worked on a Rhine barge after finishing school with secondary school leaving certificate. She later completed an apprenticeship at the Deutsche Bundespost and was accepted into the civil service. Today Gabriele Kuhnke lives in Sommerland near Elmshorn in Schleswig-Holstein , is married and has three children. In 1992 she became the town clerk of Glückstadt .

Kuhnke made his first attempts as an author at the age of 12. An adventure story that she submitted to Franz Schneider Verlag was rejected by the publisher. Kuhnke made her big breakthrough in 1984 with her children's book series The Eight from the Great River . Gabriele Kuhnke has been a member of the group of authors Die Flussschreiber since 2008 .
