Gabriele Lechner

Gabriele Lechner (born March 8, 1961 in Vienna ) is an Austrian opera and concert singer (soprano).

Life

She studied at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna and passed the diploma examinations in the subjects of voice training, song and oratorio and musical dramatic performance with distinction. Lechner won the "Mario del Monaco" competitions in Italy, "Opera en Belcanto" in Belgium and "Dr. Luis Sigall" in Chile.

She gave concerts and opera appearances in European countries as well as Chile and Korea. She has also performed at the Salzburg Festival , the Vienna Festival , Carinthian Summer , Prager Spring , Maggio Musicale Fiorentino with works from concert and opera literature.

In 1986 she made her international breakthrough as Amelia in Verdi's "Un Ballo in Maschera" at the Vienna State Opera with Luciano Pavarotti and Piero Cappuccilli as partners and Claudio Abbado as conductors. The performance was broadcast live across Europe on Austrian television. After international engagements, as well as an ensemble member of the Vienna State Opera , the Graz Opera and at the Zurich Opera House as a youthful-dramatic soprano in Verdi , Puccini , Wagner and Richard Strauss opera roles, she is now a freelancer.

She worked u. a. under the directors Harry Kupfer (" Elektra " at the Vienna State Opera), Ruth Berghaus ("Elektra" and " The Flying Dutchman " at the Zurich Opera House), Nikolaus Lehnhoff (" Don Carlos " at the Zurich Opera House), and Frank Corsaro (" Hansel and Gretel "at the Zurich Opera House).

Since 2004 she has held a university professorship for solo singing at the Institute for Singing and Music Theater at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna.
