Frank Corsaro

Francesco Andrea "Frank" Corsaro (born December 22, 1924 in New York City , † November 11, 2017 in Suwanee , Georgia ) was an American theater, opera and film director, librettist and writer.

Corsaro attended the Yale School of Drama from 1945 to 1948 , then studied at the City College of New York and the Actors Studio . In the 1950s, he directed performances on Broadway of Roald Dahl's The Honeys (with Hume Cronyn and Jessica Tandy ), Michael V. Gazzo's A Hatful of Rain (with Ben Gazzara , Anthony Franciosa and Shelley Winters ) and Tennessee Williams ' Night of the Iguana (with Bette Davis and James Farentino ).

From 1958 Corsaro worked for the New York City Opera ; he made his debut at the Metropolitan Opera in 1984 with Georg Friedrich Handel's Rinaldo . For the television series Bob Hope Presents the Chrysler Theater , he produced a short version of William Inges Out on the Outskirts of Town with Anne Bancroft , Jack Warden , Fay Bainter and William Inge himself in 1964. In addition, Corsaro wrote several opera libretti and the play A Piece of Blue Sky , which he performed with Roland Winters , Nancy Marchand , Marian Seldes and Morgan Sterne , as well as a novel and his memoirs. As an actor, he appeared in Paul Newman's Rachel, Rachel opposite Joanne Woodward . Corsaro died in November 2017 at the age of 92.
