Gabriele Mathes (* 1960 in Wels ) is an Austrian film director .

Live and act

Gabriele Mathes first studied English , philosophy and art history . In 1985 she was admitted to the Vienna Film Academy , where she studied directing with Axel Corti and Peter Patzak . Her short films move between different film genres, have a political claim and play with narration. Mathes also works as a dramaturge at the Vienna Screenplay Forum. For her autobiographical film One Million Loan is Normal, says my grandfather (2006) Gabriele Mathes received the prize for innovative cinema at Diagonale 2006 and the New Visions Award at cph: dox 2006. Since 2006, Gabriele Mathes has been director of the video & filmtage, a short film festival in Vienna with films by children and young people. On the occasion of the European Football Championship in 2008 she co-produced the Austrian-Swiss short film role Eleven Minutes . For Message in a Bottle (2012) Mathes was awarded the Austrian Short Film Prize at Vienna Independent Shorts 2012. In 2013 she received the Outstanding Artist Award for Film from the Federal Ministry for Education, Art and Culture .
