Gabriele Stock-Schmilinsky

Gabriele Stock-Schmilinsky b. von Bose (born August 13, 1903 in Hamburg , † July 19, 1984 in Hamburg) was a German painter and art school director .

She began her artistic training in 1922 at Gerda Koppel's (1875–1941) art school in Hamburg, where she was taught by Friedrich Ahlers-Hestermann (1883–1973). From 1930 to 1933 she studied at the Landeskunstschule am Lerchenfeld in Hamburg. In 1937/38 she completed an apprenticeship as a craft teacher at the Werkkunstschule in Berlin .

Then she took over the management of the art school from Gerda Koppel , who as a Jew was no longer allowed to teach and emigrated to Copenhagen in 1939. Gabriele Stock-Schmilinsky continued the Koppel art school as the Schmilinsky art school at Mittelweg 169 in Hamburg. The Hamburg painters Eduard Bargheer (1901–1979) and Karl Kluth (1898–1972) also taught at the Schmilinsky art school . The students at the art school included Volker Detlef Heydorn (1920–2004) and Annemarie Ladewig (1919–1945).

In the 1930s, Gabriele Stock-Schmilinsky went on study trips to Paris and Italy with her friend, Eduard Bargheer . Initially influenced artistically by Expressionism , she began to grapple with Cubism and then Tachism since the 1950s .

Just like her father William Charles Bernhard von Bose (1855–1927), Gabriele Stock-Schmilinsky was buried in the von Bose family grave at the Hamburg cemetery in Ohlsdorf , grid square P 25.1–16 (near the water tower on Cordesallee ).
