Gabriele Stauner (born April 22, 1948 in Wolfratshausen ) is a German politician ( CSU ). She was first elected to the European Parliament in 1999.

After attending school and graduating from high school in Bavaria, Gabriele Stauner began language studies in Paris and Munich in 1968, which she successfully completed in 1972 with an interpreting diploma in English , French and Russian . At the same time she began studying law and Slavic studies at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich . In 1984 Stauner received his doctorate as Dr. jur. with a dissertation on the French corporate constitution .

She is Roman Catholic and has a daughter born in 1988.

Professional background

From 1979 on, Stauner served for eight years in the Bavarian State Ministry for Labor and Social Affairs before joining the Foreign Service in 1987 at the Permanent Mission of the Federal Republic of Germany to the United Nations Office in Geneva. In 1991 she returned to Munich as Deputy Head of the European Department at the Bavarian State Ministry for Federal and European Affairs . From 1994 until she moved into the European Parliament in 1999, Stauner was head of the Protocol and Consular Affairs group in the Bavarian State Chancellery for five years . After narrowly missing re-entry in the 2004 European elections, Stauner initially worked as a lawyer before becoming head of department in the Bavarian State Ministry for Labor and Social Affairs, Family and Women in 2005. She ended this activity when she returned to the European Parliament in January 2006. She left the European Parliament in 2009.

On November 9th, 2008, the MEP Stauner was elected by the CSA state assembly as the new CSA state chairman, succeeding Horst Seehofer , who did not stand after his election as CSU chairman. She resigned from this office at the end of 2010 in order to act entirely as head of the State Minister for Federal and European Affairs in the Bavarian State Chancellery, which she has been since March 2010.

In the European Parliament

From 1999 to 2004 and from 2006 to 2009 Stauner was a member of the CSU European group. There she acted as "Legal and Social Policy Spokeswoman" and was a member of the Budgetary Control Committee, the Legal Committee and the Committee on Employment and Social Affairs . She was a member of the “Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia” and “Russia and Ukraine” delegations. After she returned to the European Parliament on October 30, 2013, she became a member of the Committee on Employment and Social Affairs and the Committee on the Internal Market and Consumer Protection . She lost her mandate in the 2014 European elections . From 1999 to 2004 she was the EPP's permanent rapporteur on the fight against fraud.
