Gabrielle Dorziat

Gabrielle Dorziat (born January 15, 1880 in Épernay , † November 30, 1979 in Biarritz ) was a French actress .

Life

She began her career in 1900 at the Thèâtre du Parc in Brussels . In the same year she went to Paris and performed in theaters there. In the following 35 years she was particularly successful in plays by Sacha Guitry , several times under his direction.

In 1936 in Mayerling , she became known in film as Empress Elisabeth . After that she stood in front of the camera for another three decades. Mostly she embodied simple women from the people, her portrayal of Archduchess Sophie in Von Mayerling bis Sarajewo 1940 was one of the exceptions.

Dorziat had been married to Michel de Zogheb († 1964), a cousin of the Egyptian King Fu'ad I , since 1925 . She died a few weeks before her 100th birthday.
