Galʿed ( Hebrew גַּלְעֵד Galʿed , German 'memorial' ) is a kibbutz in Ramat Menasseh , between the Jezreel plain and the Carmel mountains , about 15 km east of Sichron Jaʿaqov near Tell Megiddo . Its original official name was Even Yitzhak ("Yitzhaks / Isaaks Stein") after the South African Zionist Isaac Ochberg , with whose financial support the land could be bought.
Kibbutz Gal'ed was founded in 1945 by German members of the Zionist- socialist youth movement Habonim , to which the later Knesseth members Senta Josephthal and Giora Josephthal belonged.
According to the Israeli statistical office, Gal'ed had 412 inhabitants at the end of 2008, 463 in 2015 and 490 in 2018.
