Gala León García (born December 23, 1973 in Madrid ) is a former Spanish tennis player .

Career

García began playing tennis at the age of eleven, preferring the clay court. In her career, she won a single title on the WTA Tour , as well as six singles and four doubles titles on the ITF Women's Circuit . Her best performance in a Grand Slam tournament was at the French Open , when she reached the round of 16 in individual singles there in 1996 and 1999.

Between 1996 and 2001 she played six games for the Spanish Fed Cup team . In 2004 she ended her tennis career.

For the 2015 season , Gala León García was the first woman to be appointed team captain of the Spanish Davis Cup team . Her signing sparked such controversy among Spanish players that she was sacked before her first appearance.
