The galaxial winter leaf ( Shortia galacifolia ) is a species of the genus Shortia in the Diapensiaceae family .
features
The Galaxblättrige winter leaf is an evergreen, perennial, herbaceous plant that reaches heights of 10 to 20 centimeters. The leaf blade is circular or broadly elliptical, often weakly heart-shaped at the base and 2 to 7 inches long and wide. The crown is white or light pink and 1.5 to 2.5 centimeters in diameter. The stamens are about as long as the anthers.
The flowering period extends from May to June.
Occurrence
The galaxy-leaved winter leaf occurs in the USA in North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia on shady rock corridors and in damp forest canyons.

The winter leaf with galaxies is rarely used as an ornamental plant for rhododendron stocks, bog beds and rock gardens. The species has been in culture since 1881 at the latest.
Systematics
Shortia galacifolia and Shortia uniflora form the hybrid Shortia × intertexta Marchant .
