The Therme Erding is a privately financed Spa  in Erding with a state-approved thermal healing water. The total area of the Therme Erding extends over 430,000 m², whereby the usable area for guests is 185,000 m² at the moment.

In 2019 it had 1.85 million visitors, around 5,000 guests a day and 11,000 on peak days.

history

In February 1983 Deutsche Texaco carried out wells with the intention of tracing oil and natural gas deposits. On February 12, 1983, water containing fluoride and sulfur was encountered at a depth of 2350 meters.

The foundation stone of the Erding thermal baths was laid on November 10, 1998, and the opening on October 3, 1999. The facility consisted of a thermal bath area and a textile-free sauna area.

The “Therme Erding” was designed by the architects and entrepreneurs Josef Wund and Jörg Wund. In the meantime, the Wund Group has designed and built four other thermal baths in addition to the thermal baths in Erding: the Bad Wörishofen thermal baths , the Badeparadies Schwarzwald , the thermal baths & bathing world Sinsheim and the thermal baths & bathing worlds Euskirchen.

The sauna area was expanded in March 2007 and since then has a total area of 13,600 m². Part of the original sauna area was continued under the name “VitalOase” as a textile health area. In April 2007 the “Galaxy Erding” slide area opened.

On March 1, 2009, the “VitalTherme & Saunas” area became the “Royal Day Spa” wellness area.

On July 26, 2014, an outdoor slide system with a total of eight water slides went into operation.

In October 2014 the Hotel Victory Therme Erding opened with an adjoining wave pool.

Since the foundation stone was laid for Therme Erding, investments in construction and expansion have totaled more than 200 million euros, of which around 100 million euros went into the expansion of the Hotel Victory, the wave pool and the outside slides.

According to the company's own information, the number of jobs in 2016 was around 750.

The thermal healing water of the thermal baths is pumped from a depth of 2,350 m and has a natural temperature of 65 degrees Celsius. A large part of the extracted thermal water is used for energy in the district heating network of the city of Erding. For example, the new development areas in Erdings, the hospital, the Erding-West industrial park and schools are heated in an environmentally friendly manner.

Thermal areas

Therme Erding consists of five areas:

  • Thermal bath
  • VitalOase (access from 16 years)
  • VitalTherme & saunas (use of textile-free; access from 16 years)
  • Galaxy Erding slide area
  • Wave pool

Visitors to the thermal baths, the Galaxy and the wave pool can use all three areas. These are also open to visitors to the VitalOase. Access to the VitalTherme & Saunas enables the use of the entire Therme Erding.

Thermal bath

The textile thermal bath area has an area of 27,500 m² (9,000 m² indoor area and 18,500 m² thermal bath garden) and is roofed with a glass dome with a diameter of 56 m. The dome can be opened up to halfway in warm temperatures and provides daylight in the bathing area.

Inside there is a 1,450 m² thermal pool with pool bar, "grotto", waterfall, neck showers, massage jets, bubble loungers and a flow channel, as well as relaxation loungers, massage rooms, health baths, steam bath, organic sauna, Kneipp course, toddler area and a restaurant. The thermal garden houses the barrier-free outdoor pool with massage loungers from the large thermal pool, as well as a sulfur healing spring, sandy beach, beach bar, beach volleyball field and outdoor slides.

In the thermal baths there is an action program every day, for example water aerobics. Masks and peelings are given out several times a day.

Vital oasis

The textile health area is accessible to visitors aged 16 and over. The VitalOase has an indoor pool with an integrated pool bar, three relaxation rooms with an Asian ambience, three textile saunas and a restaurant. Outside there is a sulfur healing spring and an Asian-style garden. In September 2008 three health pools, the Vital-Quellen, were opened. They contain minerals such as those found in the Dead Sea , selenium iodine and calcium .

Another textile sauna was opened in November 2015. The Kugulus is a wooden ball that has a height of 5 m and a diameter of 6 m and offers space for 40 people. This sauna is the largest wooden ball sauna in the world.

VitalTherme & saunas

Access to the textile-free sauna area is from 16 years of age. There are a total of 28 different saunas, including two steam baths and various other wellness offers on a total area of 13,600 m². The main building of the VitalTherme & Saunas is located under a 260 ton glass roof that can be opened. There is a large pool, a pool bar and most of the saunas. There are also three different restaurants in the VitalTherme & Saunas. Around 90 different infusions take place in the saunas every day.

The textile-free sauna area includes an outdoor area with three saunas and a natural lake.

In April 2016, another steam sauna, the cloud forest, was opened in the VitalTherme & Saunas, which was designed based on the Erdinger Moos .

Galaxy Erding

The Galaxy slide area is located under a 25 meter high metal dome that can be opened up to halfway. In this area there are 18 water slides, including 360 meters, which is the longest tire slide in Europe according to the company's own information. In August 2014, eight slides opened in the outdoor area of the thermal bath, including the first mat slide, in which six people can slide next to each other. In July 2018, another outside slide was opened, which bears the name "Big Wave" and is the longest outside tire slide in Germany.

In February 2016, three private relaxation rooms were created in the Galaxy in cooperation with the Skiwelt Wilder Kaiser Brixental with the Alm Chalets.

Wave pool

The wave pool area was opened in October 2014. This is adjacent to the Galaxy and is directly connected to the Hotel Victory Therme Erding. The area covers 2,300 m². It is located under a glass roof that can be opened. The main attraction there is the 1,500 m 2 wave pool with five different wave levels. In the area there is also an outdoor pool, a lazy river, a smaller pool with bubble jets and a pool for children. There is a pool bar outside in front of the wave pool and a bar inside with various snacks and drinks. There are also 300 large palm trees in the wave pool, which receive daylight through the glass roof. The waves are generated with a wave machine developed by the previous owner Josef Wund and reach a maximum height of three meters. Using different frequencies, you can program from gentle waves up to a maximum of three meters high. The technology with which the waves are generated enables waves that only work in a vertical direction, thus preventing the bathers from being pushed to the edge of the pool.

Hotel Victory Therme Erding

The Hotel Victory Therme Erding opened at the end of 2014. Part of the hotel is modeled on the HMS Victory , the other is reminiscent of a Venetian palazzo. The hotel is directly adjacent to the wave pool and has 128 rooms in sizes from approx. 25 m².

The hotel has two restaurants.

technology

The entire amount of water at Therme Erding is cleaned every 20 minutes. 3.3 million liters of water are treated in 27 filter systems with ozone , chlorine , sulfur and other chemicals. The saunas are heated by a kettle in which the water is heated to 160 ° C under high pressure.

For the wave pool opened in 2014, the then owner Josef Wund developed an energy-saving wave technology. With six compressed air cylinders, vibration frequencies are generated by overpressure and underpressure, whereby individual wave stages can be defined. Due to the use of the natural atmospheric pressure and this special air technology, this is a very energy-saving solution compared to other technologies.

Award

In 2019 the Therme Erding received the award for the best thermal bath in Germany from Focus Money.

Events (excerpt)

Various themed events take place regularly at Therme Erding. The entire thermal bath is open until 1 a.m. once or twice a month.

German sliding championships are also held in the slide area.

Transport links

The Therme Erding is located northeast of Munich and is directly on the federal highway 388 . You can get here via the A 9 (exit Garching-Süd), A 94 (exit 10 Erding / Anzing or exit 9b Markt Schwaben / Erding) or the A 92 (exit Erding). Free parking spaces are available in front of the thermal baths. In addition, Altenerding train station is about a kilometer away and offers a connection to the S 2 . This runs between Erding and Petershausen via Munich. Altenerding station is served by the 550, 560 and 570 buses, which stop right at the thermal baths.

Accidents

In the thermal baths there were sometimes serious injuries, including broken bones and two torn fingers. The case of a 16-year-old boy who injured himself on a bouncy cushion in the outdoor area met with greater media presence. When attempting a backflip, he landed unhappily on the jumping pillow. In 2015, the Erding thermal baths were sentenced in the first judicial instance to compensation for pain and suffering of around EUR 430,000 plus a monthly compensation for pain and suffering of EUR 500. Several lawsuits were brought against the operator himself as a result of accidents. Most of the lawsuits have been dismissed and criminal proceedings have been dropped in exchange for a sum of money. On June 10, 2011, gases from a cleaning agent were released in the VitalOase, as a result of which 36 people had to be treated by a doctor due to breathing difficulties.
