Galen Carter Spencer ( GC Spencer ; born September 19, 1840 in New York City , † October 19, 1904 in Greenwich , Connecticut ) was an American archer .
Methodist Reverend Spencer, one of the oldest Olympic athletes, won the gold medal with the team, the Potomac Archers , in an American domestic duel at the 1904 Olympic Games in St. Louis . The competition took place on his 64th birthday. Three weeks after his victory, he had to undergo an operation, the aftermath of which he died another week later.
