Beckum-Dalmer gallery grave

The gallery grave of Beckum-Dalmer (also called Beckum 2) is located in the Dalmer peasantry south of Beckum in the Warendorf district , in the middle of the Westphalian Bight in North Rhine-Westphalia . It is the most northwestern and westernmost preserved gallery grave in Germany. Most of the representatives of this genus are in East Westphalia and North Hesse .

Floor plans of galleries using the example of three systems from the Warburg necropolis - Beckum-Dalmer corresponds roughly to type C.

description

The megalithic complex from the Neolithic was created by the funnel beaker culture (TBK) between 3500 and 2800 BC. Built in BC. Neolithic monuments are an expression of the culture and ideology of Neolithic societies. Their origin and function are considered to be the hallmarks of social development.

The facility is a long, northwest-southeast-oriented gallery of the Rimbeck type, the entrance to which is in the middle of the northeast side. The system is the only one with a weak kink in the middle. An astronomical orientation is discussed. What was striking, however, was only the orientation of the entrance, which, as in "Hiddingsen-Soest", seems to be directed towards the northern ascent of the moon. Like the megalithic graves in the district of Osnabrück and the Devil's Stones from Heiden, about 80 km away, the gallery consists of boulders . The nearest gallery grave (Hiddingsen-Soest) and the other systems of the type, however, consist of stone slabs or blocks.

The Beckum Gallery is still relatively complete. Some bearing stones and most of the cap stones are missing, but the shape and dimensions of the system are clearly visible. Some of the bearing stones have been moved. The length of the chamber is 27 m, its width about 1.5 m. Two bearing stones and a cap stone have been preserved from the entrance in the middle of the northeast side.
