Irene Galitzine

Irene Galitzine ( Russian Ирина Галицина / Irina Galizina ; born July 22, 1916 or 1918 in Tbilisi / Georgia ; † October 20, 2006 in Rome ) was an Italian fashion designer of Russian origin.

She was the only child of Prince Boris Galizin (1878-1958) and his first wife Nina Petrovna Kovaldji (1888-1957). Her mother brought her to Rome in the course of the Russian October Revolution and the ensuing turmoil of the civil war , where she married Silvio Medici de Menezes (1903-1989) in 1949 . The marriage remained childless.

The fashion designer became internationally known especially in the 1960s. At that time she dressed Audrey Hepburn , Jacqueline Kennedy and Liz Taylor, among others . Her creations have been exhibited in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York , among others .
