Gall army

Gall Heer (born May 21, 1897 in Rorschach ; † December 21, 1981 in Engelberg ) was a Swiss historian and Benedictine priest .

Life

Gall Heer was born on May 21, 1897 as the son of the businessman Carl Heer and Ida, née Kappeler, in Rorschach. After attending secondary school in Engelberg, Heer entered the Benedictine monastery there, where he made his profession in 1919 and was ordained a priest in 1923 . From 1927 to 1930 he studied history in Freiburg and received his doctorate in 1932. Dr. phil. From 1925 on, Heer taught history at the Engelberg grammar school, looked after the monastery archives and, in addition to working on the fatherland and on the monastery ' s own journal Titlisgrusses, devoted himself to researching the history of the monastery and the valley. For Helvetia Sacra he wrote the articles Engelberg and Engelberg-Sarnen together with Helene Büchler-Mattmann .

Gall Heer died on December 21, 1981 at the age of 84 in Engelberg.
