Galler (noble family)
Galler (also Galer , Gäller , Freiherren Galler , Count Galler , Galler v. Schwamberg ) is the name of one of the oldest noble families of Styria in Austria , also it belonged with some lines to the rural nobility in Lower Austria , where it was wealthy; they are not to be confused with the von Gall (noble family) , also belonging to the Lower Austrian rural nobility .
history
Origin and possessions
Knight Heinrich Galler is named first in the family line and was married to Adelheid . They lived around 1115 and fathered Werner Galler along with other sons . He was abbot of the Seccau monastery ( Abbey of Seckau , also Abbey of Our Lady ; Latin Abbatia BMV Secoviensis , the Benedictine monks in Seckau ( Styria , Austria ) and died in 1196. Dietmar Galler zu Schwamberg was a descendant of the Galler who in turn had other descendants so that Otto, Chunrad and Ortlinus are also mentioned as sons between 1296 and 1317. Following recent historians and archivists, the Galler Styrian nobility are a branch of the with Chunrat de Stretvic in the village of Friesach within the municipality of Peggau ( Graz-Umgebung district , Styria, Austria). The first documentary appearance of Strettweg in 1149 , which named itself after its ancestral seat Strettweg near Judenburg in Eastern Styria. King Rudolf von Habsburg decided in 1277 between Bishop Wernher von Seckau and Ditmarum militem dictum de Stretwich about important goods in Geula ( today Gaal , murtal district , Styria) in favor Ditmar de Stretwich . Since nan nth this and his descendants de Geula or from the Geul , at the beginning of the 14th century Gaeler , later Gäller and Galler . One of the descendants of these descendants was Hans Galle r. He was a knight in 1466. Hans Galler was enfeoffed by Albrecht von Ebersdorf (noble family) with both the castle and the village of Reckchendorf , which is now in Matzen-Raggendorf in the Gänserndorf district in Lower Austria . Georg Galler , another descendant, was also a knight and owner of Raggendorf and Gallbrunn . He was married to Margaretha von Geymann . They fathered several daughters and the sons Siegmund and Peter . The brothers Georg and Wilhelm Galler acquired the Schwanberg rule from Archduke Karl of Austria in 1568 with a diploma issued in Graz .
Peter Galler fathered Johann Christof von Galler . He was pledge holder of the Weitenstein rule and received his diploma from the Baron of Graz on May 4th. 1607.
Siegmund Galler for his part received the diploma of the baron class of Graz on December 1, 1611 for the entire Deszendenz. His son Wilhelm Freiherr von Galler zu Schwamberg married Margaretha von Wagensperg (noble family) . Both fathered Johann Balthasar Freiherr von Galler zu Schwamberg . He was the Imperial and Royal Chamberlain and governor of Austria and became, like the entire descendants of the baronial Gallerian cousins Johann Christian († 1669), Georg Sigmund († 1666) and Johann Friedrich († 1669), including the siblings of those cousins, in Prague on May 12th 1680 raised to the rank of count. So they received the title Count von Galler barons of Schwammberg-Waldschach and Lainach Herr zu Waasen . Johann Balthasar was married to Felicitas Freiin von Holzapfel zu Hirzheim in his first marriage , and in his second marriage to Anna Maria Countess Dietrichstein , with whom he fathered the sons Georg Sigismund (also Sigmund ) and Johann Friedrich , who in turn were to divide the sex into two lines .
Georg Sigismund von Galler married Maria Freiien von Rauber and continued the older line, which in turn continued two more branches with the two founders of the branches Count Clemens August (born April 21, 1752, died November 12, 1792), royal Bavarian Chamberlain and Rittmeister of the Rechberg Dragoon Regiment , as well as Count Ludwig Wilhelm (born May 27, 1755).
Johann Friedrich von Galler, married to Maria Anna Countess Herberstein , continued the younger line, which, however, went out with the descendant and Count Franz Karl on October 13, 1818.
The noble family from Galler to u. a. in Gallbrunn , Roggendorf and Rannersdorf in Lower Austria; Overall, the Galler coined the following properties: Wernberg, Kirchberg an der Wild, Mühlegg, Waasen bei Wildon, Pfeilerhof (Freydenegg), Lannach, Schwanberg, Palais Prandegg and Galler in Graz, Damtschach, Palais Dietrichstein, St. Martin in Graz, Haimburg, Offenburg, Reifenstein, Schwarzenegg, Waldschach, Wasserberg, Hornegg, Ratzenegg, Pichl (Mitterdorf), Spangstein (ancestral castle), Arnfels Castle, Palais Kollonitsch in Graz, Riegersburg in Styria, Reifenstein, Rannersdorf - Wallhof, Klagenfurt - Ehrental, Leoben - Massenburg , Hartbergschlössl, Johnsdorf, Kornberg, Fohnsdorf, Ehrnau, Gjaidhof, Pöls, Dornhofen, Aichelberg (Eichelberg), Klagenfurt - Zigguln and Authal.
Wernberg
Sigismund von Wagensperg fought as a royal Swedish colonel in the Thirty Years' War for King Gustav II Adolf (Sweden) against the emperor and the empire and, like many other Protestant nobles, had to emigrate because of that "high treason" and surrender his possessions, including Wernberg with Wernberg Castle , which later came to Baroness Galler von Schwamberg by way of inheritance. In 1672 she sold it to Abbot Christoph Kaponig von Ossiach from the Ossiach Monastery , a former Benedictine monastery on Lake Ossiach in Carinthia , Austria.
Kirchberg an der Wild
In 1492 Valentin Gundisch was a fiefdom taker from Kirchberg until the estate came into the possession of Adam Galler (1541) in the 16th century, who in turn sold it to Wenzel von Krackwitz (1552).
Mühlegg
Mühlegg had been in the possession of Baron Johann Gabriel von Maschwander since 1661 , who sold it to Hans Friedrich Graf Galler in 1664. After the death of Countess Anna Theresia Galler in 1733, Mühlegg was placed under Sequester (law) . In 1741 it was auctioned off to Rudolf von Streitz .
Waasen near Wildon
In 1523 Hans Holzapfel, married to a woman from Perneck , bought the Waasen near Wildon property in order to get to Balthasar Galler in 1612 by way of a settlement. The Galler expanded the former castle into a palace, built and enlarged the east and south wing as well as, mentioned in a document in 1670, a library with 270 volumes. When the castle fell into disrepair in the 18th century, Count Franz Karl Galler sold the property to Count Franz Xaver Liechtenberg in 1809 . You can still see the von Galler coat of arms next to the entrance.
