history

The company emerged in 1918 from the horse haulage company based in Luthern Bad , with which transport orders had already been carried out. With the fleet of that time, wood, fodder, cheese and on Sundays people were transported for customers in the region. In 1918 the first truck with iron tires went into operation.

After the death of the company's founder, Josef Galliker, in 1962 Peter and Helene Galliker took over the transport company with the five vehicles and three employees. The acquisition of the first car transporter in 1965 laid the foundation for later growth. Galliker used it to carry out transports to Scandinavia for automobile and truck manufacturers . At the same time, activities in Switzerland, especially in the area of goods transport, were gradually expanded. In the 1970s, there was an increased international focus with new destinations in Italy and Belgium and a rapid expansion of the vehicle fleet.

In 1980 the company, which now had around 90 employees and 75 trucks, moved to Altishofen, where Galliker opened two warehouses in 1986 , thereby expanding its activities to include warehouse logistics . In 1988 Galliker opened his first foreign branch in Belgium, which was followed over the years by others in Italy, Luxembourg, Sweden and Slovakia. From the end of the 1990s, in addition to several branches, various new logistics locations were set up in Switzerland.

Galliker Holding, Planzer Transport , Camion-Transport and Bertschi AG want to take a 35% stake in SBB Cargo through Swiss Combi AG . The participation announced at the end of August 2019 still requires the approval of the competition authority . Galliker holds 10% of the Swiss Combi shares.
