The dual rail / road transport system has been implemented across the board. Around two thirds of general cargo shipments are transported by rail in the main leg. history

The company emerged from "Lagerhaus AG", which was founded in Wil in 1925. In 1975 the first branch was opened in Geneva . In 1985, CT was the first Swiss road transport company to put a general cargo shuttle into operation by rail. From then on, the shipments were transported between the Wil and Geneva locations by rail.

In 1996 the company took over the SBB subsidiary Cargo Domizil together with Planzer Transport and Galliker Transport . With this, CT expanded to include three locations in Eastern, Northern and Western Switzerland and was able to systematically shift the goods to be transported over the main distances by rail. The replacement of the company's own radio network by an IT-based fleet management system took place at the end of the 1990s.

The growing traffic on the Swiss road networks, the imminent introduction of the performance-based heavy vehicle fee (HVF) and the increasing pressure to shift goods onto the rails led the company management to set up its own rail-bound branches in the economically most important parts of the country.

Under the label “Eco Balance by Camion Transport”, CT summarizes its activities in the field of the environment. This program received the 2012 Eco Performance Award.

Camion-Transport, Planzer Transport, Galliker and Bertschi AG want to take a 35% stake in SBB Cargo through Swiss Combi AG . The participation announced at the end of August 2019 still requires the approval of the competition authority . Camion-Transport holds 40% of the Swiss Combi shares.
