Galloway and Upper Nithsdale was a constituency for the Scottish Parliament . It was introduced in 1999 as one of nine constituencies in the electoral region of South of Scotland , which was redesigned and renamed South Scotland as part of the constituency revision in 2011 . Here the constituency of Galloway and Upper Nithsdale was abolished. Most of Galloway and Upper Nithsdale went into the new constituency of Galloway and West Dumfries . Galloway and Upper Nithsdale included areas of the Dumfries and Galloway Council Area and sent one MP. In the 2001 census survey, a total of 66,981 people lived within its borders.
