history

Parish Church of St. Gallus in Flörsheim am Main

At the end of 1978, the then district administrator of the MTK Bernward Löwenberg and the acting mayor of the city of Flörsheim Dieter Wolf at the same time suggested an anniversary concert by the Flörsheim church choir in the baroque Gallus Church at the subsequent festive get-together in a conversation with Alois Ickstadt (founder of the Figuralchors Frankfurt) and Alois Kottmann (among other things founder of the Collegium Instrumentale Alois Kottmann) to conceive a concert series that could become a regional music-cultural center within the Main-Taunus-Kreis, appropriate to the sacred building of the Galluskirche. This led to the founding of the Association for the Promotion of Music in the Main-Taunus-Kreis in 1979, which has been responsible for the Gallus Concerts , which have been successful and respected for over three decades . The St. Gallus Church (built 1766–1768) in Flörsheim am Main was the ideal venue , which, thanks to its acoustics and an outstanding Dahm organ, promised an attractive setting for concert performances from the Baroque, Classical and Romantic eras. The series of events began in 1980 with festive Christmas concerts, which are continued to this day as part of the series consisting of four concerts. In 2005 the 25th anniversary of the Gallus Concerts was celebrated. Today in the course of the annual Gallus Concerts season in the fourth quarter of each calendar year, mostly orchestral concerts, organ concerts and oratorio concerts take place. Prominent instrumental and vocal soloists as well as well-known ensembles will be hired as well as young music-gifted talents, who should be given the opportunity to develop their skills further in a concert. As a co-founder of the Gallus Concerts , the violinist Alois Kottmann took part in the concerts for a long time with the Collegium Instrumentale Alois Kottmann . For decades, Alois Ickstadt, as one of the conductors and with the Figural Choir Frankfurt performing under his direction, gave the Gallus concerts with the oratorios a brilliant climax. The media from the Flörsheimer Zeitung to the Hessischer Rundfunk , the Frankfurter Rundschau and the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung regularly take positive note of the Gallus concerts .

Fundraising

The Gallus concerts are sponsored by the Musik Main-Taunus e. V. supported by the commitment of its members. In addition to the board of directors, a technical advisory board monitors compliance with the objectives, which consist in promoting music-cultural purposes, essentially in the field of classical music, by performing important works of musical literature and promoting young artists.

Sponsorship

For the financial outlay that arises from the Gallus concerts , sponsors are sought who can, for example, act as patrons of individual concerts. Among other things, rooms are available to be able to organize receptions, buffets or dinners after the concerts.

Radio / television

The Gallus concerts are sometimes performed as events of the hessian broadcast and recorded.
