Collegium Instrumentale Alois Kottmann

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Collegium Instrumentale Alois Kottmann was founded in 1968 by its namesake, the violinist Alois Kottmann , in Frankfurt am Main . The string orchestra became known to a wider public through international performances and internationally known soloists.

history

The Collegium Instrumentale Alois Kottmann was originally formed from an ensemble of students from the violin classes led by Alois Kottmann at Dr. Hoch's Conservatory in Frankfurt and the Frankfurt Conservatory and the Academy of Music Mainz and was continued by the parties and after their university studies. Young violinists were promoted as soloists. After several years of ensemble studies, the decision was made to organize public concerts.

In the 1970s, Margrit von Bethmann and Alois Kottmann founded the Senckenberg Concerts , which take place annually and in which works by Frankfurt composers are also premiered.

Further suitable podiums arose in 1980 with the establishment of the Gallus Concerts in Flörsheim am Main and the Philippsruher Palace Concerts in Hanau in 1987. The ensemble also regularly takes part in the International Music Days Hessen Main-Taunus Hofheim in Hofheim am Taunus . The orchestra has made guest appearances in the United Kingdom , the United States and Mexico , among others .

For the performance of larger symphonic works, there is regular collaboration with the solo winds of the large orchestras in the Rhine-Main area . The jazz musician Albert Mangelsdorff composed the works Thinking of Bosnia for trombone and strings and the miniatures for violin and trombone for a joint CD production .

On the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the string orchestra, a CD and a commemorative publication were released in 2008.

Support association

Soon after the orchestra was founded, the Association of Friends of the Collegium Instrumentale Alois Kottmann was formed on the initiative of Margrit von Bethmann . V. in the Bethmann house . The Frankfurt patron Rüdiger Volhard took over the chairmanship, followed by the banker Hans Ludolf Koch ( Hauck & Aufhäuser ). Today the club is run by Alois Kottmann's son, the violinist Boris Kottmann . The aim is to maintain the Frankfurt string tradition according to Carl Flesch . In this context, the works of Frankfurt composers and young talents have been and are promoted.

Reviews (selection)

The Collegium Musicale Alois Kottmann is the brilliant result of a committed training concept by its founder Alois Kottmann. "

- Petra Roth , Lord Mayor of the City of Frankfurt am Main

The Collegium Musicale Alois Kottmann is an ensemble that critics rave about again and again: With the steadfastness of a ray of light, Kottmann leads his ensemble members straight to the nerve of the artistic means of expression music. "

- Achim Heidenreich, Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung

The peculiarity (of the Collegium Instrumentale Alois Kottmann) consists firstly in the fact that the inspired sound has priority over external brilliance and secondly, that one strives mainly for spiritual penetration, not for a pleasing effect. "

- Peter-Lukas Graf , flautist, conductor and university lecturer
