Adalbert Franz Kraus (born April 27, 1937 in Aschaffenburg ) is a German opera singer ( tenor ) and singing teacher.

Life

After graduating from high school, he first completed a technical training course before he began studying Catholic theology , philosophy and German . His vocal talent was recognized relatively late, after which he began to study singing with Henriette Klink-Schneider at the Bavarian State Conservatory (since 1973 University of Music Würzburg ) in Würzburg .

In 1968 he won the international music competition in Geneva . In 1970 his first engagement followed at the Lower Saxony State Theater in Hanover , where he was henceforth engaged as a lyric tenor .

In 1974 he decided to continue his professional career as a freelance opera and concert singer due to the increasing number of obligations at home and abroad, especially in Japan , America and other European countries. He has given opera guest performances in Vienna , Zurich , Hamburg , Cologne , Saarbrücken and Düsseldorf , in particular as a Mozart tenor. Furthermore, he increasingly cultivated the concert subject, especially the sacred music of Bach, Schütz and Bruckner, and gave recitals. During this time he worked with many well-known conductors, including Sir Georg Solti , Wolfgang Gönnenwein , Helmuth Rilling , Eugen Jochum , Karl Richter , Diethard Hellmann , Karl Böhm , Wolfgang Sawallisch , Rafael Kubelík , John Eliot Gardiner , Pierre Boulez and Hanns-Martin Schneidt . Adalbert Kraus made numerous radio and television recordings, with Helmuth Rilling the entire cantatas by Johann Sebastian Bach , which represented the focus of his repertoire.

Adalbert Kraus was a full professor at the Munich University of Music and honorary professor at the Würzburg University of Music. He was also a visiting professor at the International Bach Academy in Stuttgart and at the College of Music in Tokyo.
