The University of Tibet is the most important university in the Tibet Autonomous Region in the People's Republic of China . Its two main campuses are in Lhasa , with a branch in Nyingchi .

history

The university goes back to a Tibetan-language cadre training course of the People's Liberation Army in December 1951. In 1951, the Tibet Military District Cadre School was founded, and in 1956 it was renamed the Tibet Regional Cadre School. On this basis, the Tibet Administration School was founded in 1961, which was renamed the Tibet Pedagogical School in October 1965 and the Tibet Pedagogical Institute in 1975. In May 1983 the State Council of the People's Republic of China decided to found the University of Tibet on the basis of it, which happened on July 20, 1987. Since 1999, the Tibet Autonomous Region Art Academy, the Tibet Medical University and the Medical Faculty of the Tibet National Institute as well as the Tibet Autonomous Region Finance and Economics School have been affiliated to the University of Tibet. It reports to both the Central Ministry of Education in Beijing and the local government of Tibet.

The university has faculties for linguistics and literature , natural sciences , technology , medicine , art , economics and management , tourism and foreign languages , politics and law , education , finance , a research center for Tibetan-language information technology , an institute for adult education, a department for ideology , Politics and theory as well as a department for foreign students.

Education

The university offers 15 doctoral programs (including ethnology , Chinese language and literature, and ecology ), 70 master’s programs (including biology , computer science , music and dance studies , art studies and clinical medicine) and 52 bachelor ’s programs in ten areas (economics, law, education, literature , History, science, medicine, management and art). A national major course at the university is Tibetan Language and Literature .

Faculty

In April 2017, the university had a faculty of 1,134 people, including 74 professors and 269 assistant professors.

Students

As of April 2017, the University of Tibet had more than 27,000 students, including 9,338 in bachelor's programs, 670 in master's programs, 40 doctoral students, 17 foreign students and more than 17,000 participants in adult education courses.

In 2015, 54 percent of the graduates were Tibetan and 43 percent were Han Chinese ; In 2016, 48 percent of the graduates were Tibetan and 49 percent were Han Chinese.

International cooperation

The university has cooperation agreements with around a dozen universities abroad (including in Norway , Japan , the USA , Italy , Great Britain , Germany and Nepal ).

Party secretary of the university (and at the same time deputy chairman of the People's Congress of the Tibet Autonomous Region) Nyima Cering ཉི་མ་ ཚེ་ རིང་ / 尼玛 次仁. Rector of the university (and at the same time deputy party secretary of the university) is Jì Jiànzhōu 纪建洲.
