Frankfurt Opera and Museum Orchestra

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Frankfurt Opera and Museum Orchestra is the municipal orchestra of Frankfurt am Main . The ensemble owes its name on the one hand to the Frankfurt Opera and on the other hand to the concerts of the Frankfurt Museum Society that have been held since 1808 . The current general music director of the opera and chief conductor of the orchestra is Sebastian Weigle . The orchestra had 113 members in the 2008/2009 season. It is one of currently 82 theater orchestras in Germany and is managed as an A-orchestra with a footnote (here: F1 and media allowance) within the framework of the German tariff system for cultural orchestras.

history

With a history of over 200 years, the Frankfurt Opera and Museum Orchestra is one of the most traditional ensembles in Germany. Such was Louis Spohr , the second chief conductor, then initiated among others Gustav Mahler , Richard Strauss , Arthur Nikisch , Hans Pfitzner , Wilhelm Furtwängler , Hans Kempe , Hermann Abendroth , Erich Kleiber , Bruno Walter and George Szell concerts here. After the Second World War, the name was initially the municipal opera house and museum orchestra, and from the 1981/82 season the Frankfurt opera house and museum orchestra . From the end of 1995 the orchestra was simply called the Frankfurter Museumsorchester, and from the 2009/10 season the Frankfurt Opera and Museum Orchestra.
