Galzig

The Galzig is a mountain in Austria . It belongs to the federal state of Tyrol and the Arlberg region . The height of the Galzig is 2185  m above sea level. A. The mountain was developed by the Arlberger Bergbahnen and belongs to the eastern part of the Arlberg ski area .

There are a total of six mountain railways on the Galzig, one of which can be used to get to the mountain from St. Christoph or St. Anton am Arlberg . The first development with the Galzigbahn took place in 1937 from St. Anton ( 1318  m above sea level ). This lift was the first aerial cableway in the Arlberg region and was specially designed for winter operation. This railway system was overhauled in 1964 and had to give way to a new building for the 2006/07 season. A so-called Funitel system was built, which is particularly safe and comfortable thanks to its guidance via two ropes. In 1952 the Galzig was developed from St. Christoph ( 1766  m above sea level ) with the St. Christophbahn. This system was also initially modernized and gave way to a new building in 1995, which today is a 4-seater chairlift with a weather protection cover. Other cable cars that are used for winter sports on the Galzig are the Vallugabahn I aerial tramway and the Zammermoosbahn, Osthangbahn and Tanzbödenbahn chairlifts. The latter was built for the 2013/14 season and replaces a 40-year-old drag lift.

If you can still hike on the Galzig in summer, in winter it is considered the hub of the St. Anton am Arlberg ski area. The surrounding mountains Gampen, Kapall, Schindler Spitze, Valluga , Pfannenkopf, Albonagrat and Rendl can be easily reached from here.
