Gama Bomb is a thrash metal band from Newry ( Ireland ) that was formed in 2002.

history

The band was formed in 2002 by Philly Byrne (vocals), Kevin "Kevy" Canavan (electric guitar), Luke Graham (electric guitar), Joe McGuigan (electric bass, vocals), Damien Boyce and Derek McParland (drums) founded. In the same year they recorded their first demo with The Survival Option . As a result, the band performed at a few concerts and took on the next demo The Fatal Mission in 2003 and released it in 2004. At that time, Philly Byrne often disguised himself as a cook, priest, pirate or scientist.

In 2005 they released their first self-produced album, Survival of the Fastest . The album was produced by Alwyn Walker . The following year the album was released again, this time on the Witches Brew label .

In 2007 Gama Bomb released the split EP Zombi Brew / Unholy Driver together with Black Sister . The EP contained the new songs Zombi Brew and Frightmare on Hell St , as well as the cover song Maniac , originally by the punk band The Dangerfields . The EP was limited to 200 copies and was about Problem? Records released.

In September 2007 the band signed a contract with Earache Records . The song Zombi Brew was featured on the Earache Records compilation Thrashing Like a Maniac . Other artists on this compilation were Evile , Municipal Waste , Short Sharp Shock and Send More Paramedics . In April 2008, Earache confirmed that the album Citizen Brain would be released in June 2008. The album was finally released in July 2008. Following the release, a tour of Europe followed . The band advocated downloading music from the Internet and, on their "Stamp Out Inferior Metal" campaign on the "Thrashing Like a Maniac Tour", urged fans to destroy the CDs they had already bought on the show. In January 2009 the band was voted best newcomer by the readers of the Terrorizer . In addition, the band went on tour through Europe again, together with bands like Exodus and Overkill . In August 2009 the band announced on their Myspace page that they would be going back to the studio in September to record the new album for November 2009. The album Tales from the Grave in Space was produced by Scott Atkins , who had also produced the previous album.

style

Stylistically, the band is based on 1980s thrash metal. Gama Bomb is comparable to other bands in the genre such as Nuclear Assault , Kreator , Agent Steel , Sodom , Slayer and Megadeth . Gama Bomb's songs are mostly inspired by horror, action and science fiction films, cartoons and computer games from the 1980s. In terms of content, they are dedicated to classic Thrash Metal topics such as global warming or racism, cannibalism, war, zombies, human sacrifice , ghosts and murder. The songs are often shaped by their own kind of humor.
