The Gangolfsberg is located in Markt Knetzgau , a municipality in the Haßfurt district in Lower Franconia . Due to its location in the middle of the Steigerwald north-south axis, framed by similarly high elevations, it is not as prominent as the Zabelstein, which is just under three kilometers away and visible from afar - at least from the east to the north . The mountain can be reached via the state road SW 52. The nearest place is about 2.5 km south of the mountain and is called Neuhausen .

The Stöckigsbach rises to the east of the mountain and rises on a hill at approx. 450 m above sea level. NHN and flows into the Main after 15 km .
