Gaotou is a municipality in the southeast of the People's Republic of China . It belongs to the administrative area of the Yongding District , which in turn is subordinate to the prefecture-level City of Longyan in Fujian Province . The municipality of Gaotou administers an area of 30 square kilometers with 520 hectares of agricultural land and a total population of 10,118 people in 2015. The 2000 population census showed a total population of 7,259 people in 2,197 households, of whom 3,637 men and 3,622 women.
Gaotou is divided into five villages at the village level : Gaodong (高 东村), Gaobei (高 北 村), Gaonan (高 南村), Dalingxia (大 岭下 村), Meihuashi (梅花 石村). These combine 82 village settlements.
Gaotou is home to a large number of Tulou , which are UNESCO World Heritage Sites . It is the place of origin of the ancestors of around 27,000 overseas Chinese .
