Garçons manqués is a French-language documentary film made by the German film director Susan Gordanshekan in 2005/2006. The world premiere was in 2008 at the Sehsuchten film festival .

Imane is 15 years old and lives with her family in the high-rise development "Les Bosquets" in the Paris suburb of Montfermeil , in the November 2005 suburban riots took their beginning. The soccer field in the heart of the settlement is a central place for the residents, where everyday life takes place. Imane and Sephora are known by everyone as "garçons manqués" - boys in disguise. It is not easy to be a girl in the settlement; football creates cohesion and forms an outlet for aggression. Imane dreams of becoming a police officer in order to dispel the prejudice that Arabs “only screw up”. But when the riot between the young people and the police flared up again for a short time, she became aware of her identity.
Background of the story
The film is about people who live on the fringes of society in several ways. On the one hand, the population of a Parisian suburb is depicted with their sometimes miserable living conditions and questionable equality in their choice of profession and in everyday life. On the other hand, the topic of people with a migration background is dealt with in the film. Furthermore, since the film is about a girls' soccer team, the position of women is discussed. Both the discrepancies and acceptance of Imane within the family and the immediate social environment in the suburb and in French society are examined in more detail. The question arises whether Imane is a respected French woman with full rights or a second-class citizen.

The film was awarded, among other things, the documentary film prize of the Interfilm Short Film Festival Berlin and the Best First Documentary Award from Docúpolis 2008 of the International Documentary Film Festival of Barcelona and received the rating "particularly valuable" by the German film and media evaluation.
