Garfunkel and Oates is an American comedy - folk-pop duo , consisting of Riki Lindhome ("Garfunkel") and Kate Micucci ("Oates"), who satirically process social conditions in their songs.
history
The band was founded in 2007 after the two musicians had composed pieces for Lindhome's short film Imaginary Larry . The band name is an allusion to Art Garfunkel and John Oates , "two famous rock-and-roll second bananas". In January 2009, the duo's first album, Music Songs , was released .
Her song Fuck You rose to prominence in February 2009 after starring in the sitcom Scrubs , in which Kate Micucci also played a supporting role. With their third album Slippery When Moist , which was released in early 2012, they managed to reach number 10 on the American Comedy Billboard charts. In June 2013, the first preview of the band's planned album was the song The Loophole , which deals with the premarital vow of chastity of Christian youth.
In August 2014, the comedy series, also called Garfunkel and Oates , started on the American TV channel IFC. The series, in which Lindhome and Micucci play exaggerated versions of themselves, tells (similar to the HBO series Flight of the Conchords ) of the two musicians' attempt to make a career in Los Angeles. The series ended after only one season with ten episodes.
In early 2019, the duo released a Tween Dream remix of Everything Is Awesome from The LEGO Movie for its sequel, The LEGO Movie 2 .
