Garthe is a farming community in the municipality of Emstek in the district of Cloppenburg in the Oldenburger Münsterland region in Lower Saxony .
history
Garthe, first mentioned around 947 AD, is likely to be one of the first settlement areas in the municipality of Emstek. Garthe is first mentioned as a villa (village) in 1351. Egterholz, the oldest part of the municipality, is also part of Garthe. The extensive areas of the Garther Heide are characteristic of Garthe. One of the sights is the historic coke mill in Gartherfeld in the northeast corner of the municipality of Emstek.
