The Garwood Point is a headland at the Walgreen Coast of the West Antarctic Marie Byrd lands . It marks the northern end of the Gurnon Peninsula , the north-eastern arm of the Bear Peninsula .
The United States Geological Survey mapped the headland using aerial photographs of the US Operation Highjump (1946–1947) from 1947. The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named her team captain after the blacksmith James W. Garwood of the United States Navy Williams Field airfield on McMurdo Sound , where it was also the manager of maintenance goods in eight campaigns of Operation Deep Freeze .
