Gary Raymond

Gary Barrymore Raymond (born April 20, 1935 in the London Borough of Lambeth , England ) is a British film and theater actor .

biography

Gary Raymond was born the youngest of twins. His brother Robin Rodney Raymond is older than him by 20 minutes. He also had a slightly older brother. Her mother died of tuberculosis when Gary and Robin were 9 months old.

They, like their father, were showmen who had found their way of life as gypsies . So it happened that Raymond Jr. thought of acting early on. At the age of 11 he won a scholarship to the Gateway School in Leicester in 1946 , where he graduated from high school five years later in 1951.

In order to initially be able to keep himself afloat financially, Raymond worked as a scribe and furrier , and studied acting in his spare time with the support of the London City Council. Raymond began studying at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts after financially and became a member of the well-known Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) in 1953 at the age of 18 . It was here that he was on stage for the first time. His better-known plays include Macbeth and Hamlet . In the former, he even played the title hero.

In 1958, Raymond made his film debut in Look Back and Anger . Although he was mostly seen in British films, he also received a reputation from Hollywood . He was in front of the camera in El Cid in 1960 and in The Greatest Story of All Time in 1963 in the role of Simon Petrus .

As a member of the RSC, he also got to know the actress Delena Kidd , who was three months older than him in the early 1960s , with whom Raymond has been married since 1961 and who occasionally appears together in front of the camera, including 2001 in Victoria & Albert . The couple have three children together, son Matthew and daughters Sophie and Emily.
