Princess Victoria is patronized by her own mother before she comes of age. King Wilhelm IV , who is in constant dispute with Victoria's mother, wants her to be present at court more often. When he dies, Victoria becomes queen.

The adviser to the von Sachsen-Coburg-Saalfeld family, Baron Christian Friedrich von Stockmar, is planning the marriage of the Queen to her relative, Prince Albert . Victoria at first refuses to see Albert; nor is he enthusiastic about the idea of ​​a wedding. Albert convinces von Stockmar that he can use his talents better in London than in the German provinces. Victoria's uncle Leopold I gets them to see Albert. She falls in love with the prince when she sees him.

Albert learns to love Victoria. At first he was not given a job at court, he was only slowly gaining influence. The children are born, Albert brings Victoria to reconcile with her mother.
