description
Vegetative characteristics
Gasteria brachyphylla grows without a trunk, is prostrate to upright and reaches a height of 9 to 23 centimeters with a diameter of 7.5 to 23 centimeters. It sprouts from the base and forms small groups. The ribbon-shaped, rarely triangular-lanceolate leaves are arranged in two rows on the shoot. The dark green leaf blade is 8.5 to 23 inches long and 2.2 to 8 inches wide. It is densely covered on both sides with white spots arranged in indistinct diagonal stripes. The epidermis is smooth. The leaf margin is tiny notched. The tip of the leaf is pointed, bluntly rounded or truncated. Young leaves are ribbon-shaped, rough, densely spotted and bluntly rounded.
Inflorescences and flowers
The panicle inflorescence is simple or has a pair of side branches. It reaches a length of 20 to 110 centimeters. The pink flower envelope is 12 to 22 millimeters long. Their bulbous part is spherical or spherical-ellipsoidal. It extends over half the length of the flower envelope and has a diameter of 5 to 7 millimeters. Above it, it is constricted into a white, green-striped tube with a diameter of 3 to 4 millimeters.
Fruits and seeds
The elongated fruits are 15 to 23 millimeters long and 7 millimeters wide. They contain seeds 3 to 4 millimeters long and 2 to 3 millimeters wide .
