Gasteria glauca is a species of the genus Gasteria in the subfamily of the Affodil family (Asphodeloideae).

Vegetative characteristics

Gasteria glauca grows stemless, is prostrate to erect, sprouts from the base and forms dense clumps with a diameter of up to 30 centimeters. The ribbon-shaped, lanceolate leaves form a rosette . The glauke leaf blade is 5 to 7 inches long and 1.5 to 1.8 inches wide. The upper third of the leaf is slightly runny. The slightly convex underside is keeled asymmetrically. The epidermis is roughened warty. The leaf margin is serrated warty. The tip of the leaf is pointed and has an attached tip.

Inflorescences and flowers

The simple inflorescence is a cluster of ten to 20 flowers and reaches a length of up to 25 centimeters. The reddish pink flower envelope is 30 to 34 millimeters long. Your bulbous part is spherical-ellipsoidal and extends over about half the length of the flower envelope or a little less. Above it is constricted to a tube with a diameter of 5 millimeters. The stylus does not protrude from the flower envelope.

Fruits and seeds

The elongated fruits are 20 millimeters long and 8 millimeters wide. They contain black seeds 3 millimeters long and 2 millimeters wide .

Systematics and distribution

Gasteria glauca is widespread on steep, south-facing rock faces in the South African province of Eastern Cape in the municipality of Kouga .

The first description by Ernst Jacobus van Jaarsveld was published in 1998.

Gasteria glauca is closely related to Gasteria ellaphieae .
