Gaston André Ancelovici (born February 19, 1945 in Santiago de Chile , † June 20, 2017 in Montreal ) was a Chilean - Canadian documentary filmmaker .

After Salvador Allende was overthrown by Augusto Pinochet , Ancelovici left Chile in 1973 , but later returned several times to film. As a member of the Colectivo Cine Ojo , founded in 1983, he was involved in the completion of the film collective's first documentary while in exile .

The Colectivo Cine-Ojo is a collective of independent, anonymous filmmakers. They deal with the history and with the social and political conditions of Chile. The anonymous directors secretly documented demonstrations, their speakers and the brutality of the police. They filmed a newly released political prisoner who spoke about new torture methods in the prisons.

The film Chile, I don't call your name in vain describes the daily struggle of the civilian population against the measures of the police and the military, who reacted to the democratic protest with arrests, torture and executions . Using individual stories, he makes it clear that this terror was not directed against specific political opponents, but against the entire population. Forward, Soldiers of Christ is a film about the effects of aggressive Evangelical - Protestant proselytizing in traditionally Catholic Latin America . Both films were shown at documenta11 in 2002 .
