The Gaubschat Fahrzeugwerke GmbH in 1904 in Rixdorf (1912 Neukölln ) of Fritz Gaubschat founded. The company at Karl-Marx-Straße 269–273 was primarily known for the production of bus trains .

history

1904-1945

After its establishment, Gaubschat mainly produced horse-drawn carriages and, from 1922, bus bodies on chassis from various manufacturers, including the Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft . In 1937 the company presented the first bus train. This vehicle consisted of a bus and a self-steering trailer that always followed the track of the bus's rear axle . Gaubschat Fahrzeugwerke acquired the rights to build this vehicle from an Italian manufacturer. The omnibus train was quickly given the name “D-Zug der Landstrasse” and became Gaubschat's most important product. Gaubschat supplied the Deutsche Reichsbahn with these omnibus trains. The largest model was 22 meters long.

During the Second World War , the Gaubschat vehicle works received more armaments orders . Among other things, they also manufactured superstructures for gas trucks . SS units murdered people in these "special vehicles" . This emerges from an exchange of letters between the chief of the security police and Gaubschat.

1946-1975

After the war, Gaubschat repaired tram cars, among other things . From 1950 on, bus trains were produced again in Neukölln. In 1952/53 the Deutsche Bundesbahn ordered 100 bus trains. At that time, however, it was already foreseeable that the bus and coach train business would have no future. That is why Gaubschat presented a 17 meter long articulated bus at the 1953 IAA . In the years that followed, Gaubschat Fahrzeugwerke expanded its range to include two-axle single-deck city buses and double-decker buses . In the 1950s, the close partnership with the Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe (BVG) led to an increasing dependency on the orders of the BVG. In the following years Gaubschat got fewer and fewer orders, so that in 1975 only 95 of the former 1000 employees worked at Gaubschat. In 1975 Helmut Gaubschat , the son of the company founder, died. As a result, and because of the poor financial situation, the company had to file for bankruptcy in 1975.

The brand owner for the traditional brand has been the transport company Wartburgmobil since March 2019 .
