Gavril Serfőző (born September 25, 1926 in Oradea , Bihor County ) is a former Romanian football player of Hungarian descent. He played 222 games in the highest Romanian football league, Divizia A , and took part in the 1952 Olympic Games .

Career

Serfőző began playing football in his hometown of Oradea near Nagyváradi AC , since the city belonged to Hungary after the Second Vienna Arbitration . After the end of World War II, he remained the club under the name Libertatea Oradea took, faithful and moved up into the first team, the Romanian in the top league, the Divizia A played. There he came to his first assignment on September 1, 1946.

Serfőző stayed until the winter break of the 1948/49 season in Oradea and then moved to CSCA Bucharest (later Steaua Bucharest), which he missed winning the championship with Oradea. With CSCA he was able to win the Romanian Cup in 1949 and 1950 .

At the beginning of the 1951 season Serfőző returned to Oradea and played again for his hometown club, which was now under the name Progresul Oradea . From there he came to league rivals Flamura Roşie Arad in 1953 - like his previous clubs, one of the leading Romanian clubs at the time. In Arad he won the trophy for the third time in 1953 and the championship a year later .

Serfőző stayed in Arad until 1958 when he was banned for one year. He then went to Divizia B and first played for CSM Reșița and CFR Timișoara , where he ended his career in 1962.

National team

Gavril Serfőző came from 1950 to 1954 to 13 missions for the Romanian national football team and scored two goals. He had his first game in the national jersey on May 21, 1950 against Czechoslovakia . In 1952 he was a member of the Romanian squad for the soccer tournament of the Olympic Games in Helsinki and was used in the game against the eventual Olympic champion Hungary .
