history

The GOC Munich was founded in 1986 by the mountain-loving native of Britain, John Heeley, as a loose association based on the English model. Until his death, Heeley was one of the mainspring of the club and also managed to integrate many people who otherwise did not feel at home in the gay scene. On November 30, 2001, John was awarded the bronze medal " Munich shines - the friends of Munich" from the state capital for his services to gay recreational sports . He and another comrade from the club had an accident on September 10, 2002 in a mountain accident in the Italian Adamello group .

Due to changes in liability law , an association was founded on November 30, 2003 to cover the liability risk of the organizers and tour guides of the GOC. Therefore, an application was made to become part of the German Alpine Association (DAV), which was concluded unanimously and without problems on March 21, 2004. Since then, the GOC Munich has been the lesbian-gay section of the DAV with all the advantages for its members, such as insurance coverage and privileges on the Alpine Club huts . Even the DAV the GOC supports with his experience and services such as training of coaches who undergo regular training.

Since joining the DAV, GOC Munich has maintained a close partnership with its Berlin section and has also sponsored the Berliner Hütte . From the beginning until 1990 the association was a member of the English GOC, founded in 1974. Then they switched to the International Gay & Lesbian Outdoors Organization (IGLOO), which was founded before 1986 and which has not been very active as an organizational structure for some time (1996).

Together with the HikeDykes , the GOC organized an accompanying outdoor program for participants and visitors before and after the EuroGames 2004.
