Gazelle (pipeline)
Gazelle (notation of the operator: GAZELLE ; internationally known as GAZELA ) is a natural gas - pipeline in the Czech Republic .
The main purpose of the pipeline is to carry Russian natural gas to Western Europe. The operator is Net4Gas . Construction began in October 2010 and the line went into operation in January 2013. A capacity of 30 to 33 billion m³ of gas per year is expected.
The pipeline begins in the northeast on the German-Czech border near Olbernhau (Saxony, Germany) and Brandov (Northern Bohemia, Czech Republic). This is where the line connects to the southern end of the Baltic Sea Pipeline Link (OPAL). There are also connections on the German side to the Saxony-Thuringia natural gas pipeline (STEGAL) and the Central European Transversal (MET), and on the Czech side to the northern end of the Transgas pipeline .
The southwestern end of the route is on the Czech-German border near Rozvadov (Czech Republic) and Waidhaus (Bavaria, Germany). There the transfer to the northern branch of the Central European Gas Pipeline (MEGAL) takes place on the German side ; on the Czech side there is a connection to the southern branch of the Transgas pipeline.
