Gazipur ( Bengali গাজীপুর) is a city in Bangladesh that is part of the Dhaka Division . The district capital in the Gazipur District is 28 kilometers from the state capital Dhaka. The city is part of the Upazila Gazipur Sadar with 1.8 million inhabitants. The population of Gazipur in 2011 was over 179,000.
The Islamic University of Technology is located in the city .
